NorthPoint Canada Communications Augments DSL Delivery and Support System With Turnstone's Copper CrossConnect(R) CX100 and CrossWorks(TM) Turnstone Solution Will Help Canadian Provider of Broadband Services Save Time And Money in Service Deployment, Management and Maintenance
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sep 18, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Turnstone Systems (Nasdaq: TSTN chart, msgs) announced today that NorthPoint Canada Communications, a joint venture of NorthPoint Communications (Nasdaq: NPNT chart, msgs) and Call-Net Enterprises Inc. (Nasdaq: CNEBF chart, msgs), will implement Turnstone's Copper CrossConnect CX100 local loop management platform and CrossWorks Back Office Automation Software as part of its next-generation digital subscriber line (DSL) service delivery and support system. The Turnstone solution is designed to help the Canadian broadband services company meet service-expansion plans by cutting time to market and limiting operational costs through automation of many DSL deployment, management and maintenance processes.

"We are positioned for rapid, widespread introduction of DSL throughout Canada, and the Turnstone solution will help this occur," said Jim Grainger, general manager of NorthPoint Canada Communications. "The Copper CrossConnect CX100 and CrossWorks tools augment our existing system and enable us to deploy, manage and maintain DSL with fewer truck rolls and less intervention by field personnel. These capabilities not only limit our operational costs, they also enhance customer satisfaction by helping us efficiently answer the demand from countless Internet users anticipating the arrival of our reliable, high-speed broadband services."

NorthPoint Canada Communications (www.northpointcanada.net) utilizes internally-developed applications that enable the company to administrate its growing network remotely. The Copper CrossConnect CX100, deployed in central offices, and CrossWorks work with the NorthPoint Canada Communications system to help the company process more customer orders more quickly, heighten sales and operational productivity, automate service-delivery steps and expand its service portfolio as customer needs evolve. The Copper CrossConnect CX100 will help NorthPoint Canada Communications determine remotely, and in advance, whether a link to a customer premise is capable of supporting a particular type of DSL service. NorthPoint Canada Communications currently offers high-performance symmetric DSL (SDSL) services to small- and medium-sized businesses, and the company plans to begin offering asymmetric DSL (ADSL) next year.

"NorthPoint Communications deployed our solution earlier this year, and we are pleased that its success has encouraged NorthPoint Canada Communications to do the same," said Rick Tinsley, president and chief executive officer of Turnstone. "The NorthPoint family of service providers is focused on deploying leading-edge technologies that enable them to efficiently deliver the most reliable broadband services, and the Copper CrossConnect CX100 and CrossWorks software are designed with these same goals."
