Do the recent competitive earnings and revenue reports mean the war is (at least temporarily) over for the desktop CPU, with Intel the obvious winner? Talk on CNBC today seem to suggest this.

If this is the case, it is interesting to note that although Intel clearly has beaten the competition with R&D and superior technology, the marketing department, with "Intel Inside" and branding the Pentium rather than using generic names (x86) other manufaturer's could copy is to be given a lot of credit.

The implication from decreased competition are increased GM. I don't want to use the "M" word, but the DOJ has to be keeping an eye on the situation. In a truely global market for this product, I don't think they would have the balls to get involved.

In reference to earlier notes, Intel doesn't have Pepsi or 7 Up or Mountain Dew or A&W to compete with. A really great business model will continue to reward us shareholders.
