tc, glad I mentioned start-up disk. Those directions look clear & I think I can do it. The part that you can then boot from it & see if it works makes it even better. My problem was not that I didn't have a start-up disk, but that I didn't seem to be able to use it. However, will just do the custom one & see if I have better control or comprehension. Thank you!
