Went to the Sierras for the weekend .......Overall fishing was only fair ..but I found a small stream near Crowely....Looked pretty good so thought I'd give it a try. after fighting my way through the brush it was obvious that there was no fishing pressure! I expected to catch a plethora of small Rainbows But to my surprise after an hour or so of fruitless casting on this very beautiful stream I caught nothing ......Then Bingo!!a spectacularly colored 12" Rainbow......1/2 hour later a 13" brownie with brilliant red spots...... Went back the next day upstream....Nothing for the first hour but the beauty of giant conifers and crystal clear tumbling brook kept me going [as well as the memory of the previous day ] The going was extremely tough wading on large smooth rocks in very fast water. Not even a hint of a trail on the brush choked banks. Found a neat pool alongside an old broken dam ....The fattest most colorful 15" Rainbow slammed my hopper....I can't believe that I managed to land it in the fast water must have taken me five minutes........All fish were clearly natives.....Of course all were released.... BTW That section of the Kern that seemed to have no sign of human intrusion was because every one fished the other side........Oh well it's the illusion that counts sometimes
