TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Keyshawn Johnson says he won't shake hands with Jets head coach Al Groh when New York visits the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.
"If he extends his hand, it'll still be extended," Johnson was quoted as saying in The Star-Ledger of Newark on Monday. "There's no need for him to say anything to me."
The star wide receiver, dealt by the Jets to Tampa Bay in April, said he's angry with Groh because the coach didn't have the nerve to tell him he was traded.
"I don't respect a guy that makes a decision to trade you and then has somebody else tell you," Johnson said.
"[Bill] Parcells called me. He told me he didn't want to do it. I could tell by his voice he didn't," Johnson said. "If he did support the trade, he fooled me big time. Parcells said he left it up to Groh. He had to go along with what the coach wanted."
Johnson, who had eight catches for 84 yards in the Buccaneers' 31-10 win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, also took another jab at former teammate Wayne Chrebet.
"There's no beef with him," Johnson said. "You're trying to compare a flashlight to a star. Flashlights only last so long, a star is in the sky forever. He's not even close to me and anyone who knows football knows that." |
