I worry about that too. I think of computers as intellectual amplifiers. They increase the amplitude and the spatial extent of thought waves. I can have access to huge amounts of power through the use of this device. I can influence events over space and time that I would ordinarily not be able to do. Our interaction is an example of the "new" quantum states that become available. Now the question is: If I create a new quantum state (i.e., the interaction between you and me) that "couldn't" have happened previously, what have I done? I've changed reality. Oooops. Better be careful what you do. The good news is that we have been doing this since time began.

I told my son that we are evolving into cybernetic creatures. He understands that we have evolved from lower forms but seemed fearful about his personal evolution. I assured him that it was happening slowly. But silently, I think it's happening quickly, probably within my lifetime, or his. I will go out on a limb and make a incredible, yet thought provoking prediction (it is not uniquely mine): within 50 years we will be able to quantum erase the thing that is "you" and rewrite it into a machine. In a very real way you will become immortal. The new you will have the ability to pull any information from any source and will become fully engaged in the mechanism within which it exists. It will "remember" being human, but not be human. You'd probably have to destroy the original to get the new "you" so return to your former state would not be possible.
