OK, for those who don't know.... Transistor was invented in 1947 at AT&T Bell Labs by these three guys, who received a nobel prize for it later in 1956.

Brattain, Walter Houser, U.S.A., b. 1902, d. 1987, Bell Telephone Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ, Invention description "for their researches on semiconductors and their discovery of the transistor effect".
