CacheFlow Defines a New Internet Infrastructure Category with Introduction of New Server Accelerator Family

Single Server Accelerator delivers the content of five to ten web servers at a fraction of
cost

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--September 18, 2000-- CacheFlow® Inc. (Nasdaq:CFLO - news), the
leading provider of content intelligent networking solutions today announced availability of the industry's first
family of appliances built to dramatically increase the scalability and performance of high-traffic web sites. The
CacheFlow Server Accelerator family enables web sites to serve 5-10 times more content through existing
server and network infrastructure and reduces user response times by 50-80 percent. This translates into web
sites that can serve more transactions with a lower cost infrastructure, enabling content publishers, web hosters
and enterprises to increase revenue, enhance customer loyalty and maximize rack space.

``There are two fundamental sides to the Internet performance equation: the network and the servers,'' said
Greg Howard, principal analyst at HTRC Group, LLC. ``Network side performance is being addressed through
caching and content delivery services, but the server side has been relatively neglected. Historically, the only
way to deal with server bottlenecks was to buy more servers, which is expensive, difficult to manage and
space-inefficient. CacheFlow Server Accelerators are a cost-effective way of solving server side performance
problems.''

``CacheFlow pioneered the caching appliance and quickly grew to the number one caching appliance vendor
because of our ability to meet specific customer needs,'' said Patrick Harr, vice president of marketing at
CacheFlow. ``Now with the introduction of the Server Accelerator family customized for web server
environments, CacheFlow has broadened the market opportunity and use of content intelligent appliances that
understand the specific needs of business applications.''

Broad Applications for Server Accelerators

CacheFlow Server Accelerators accelerate performance and scale traffic levels for the following customers:

E-commerce, E-business, Content and Portal sites - Server Accelerators deliver a higher quality
experience to visitors, generating more revenue and increasing customer loyalty.
Enterprises - Server Accelerators accelerate Intranet/Extranet content to employees, partners and
customers, increasing productivity and optimizing the supply chain.
Web Hosting Providers - Server Accelerators boost performance within a hosted customer's
infrastructure as a managed service offering. On July 31, 2000, Exodus Communications announced the
industry's first web acceleration service using CacheFlow Server Accelerators.
Content Distribution Networks - Server Accelerators deploy in combination with other caching
technologies to connect web servers to both public and dedicated content distribution networks. On June
26, 2000, Akamai announced it would resell the CacheFlow Server Accelerator with the CacheFlow
Akamaizer to automatically convert content to work with the Akamai FreeFlow content distribution service.

An Innovative Solution for Scaling Web Servers

The CacheFlow Server Accelerator family provides immediate performance benefits by transparently
integrating with a site's existing web server infrastructure. The Server Accelerator is placed ``in front'' of a site's
existing server farm, where it receives all inbound requests for content. The Accelerator then serves both
traditional (HTTP) and secure (HTTPS) content directly from memory to the end user, including static images,
multimedia files and dynamic content. Because Servers Accelerators offload up to 95 percent of a site's
content delivery from back-end servers, web servers can focus on querying databases and running application
logic and scripts.

Robust Features Solve Site Challenges

CacheFlow Server Accelerators address key challenges beyond performance and scalability, including:

High-volume secure content delivery - CacheFlow Server Accelerators with integrated Secure Socket
Layer, accelerate secure content quickly and efficiently. Optimized Server Accelerators with integrated
SSL process ten times more key transactions and sessions per second than standard web servers,
without the need for costly hardware add-ons or complex multiple box designs.
Content management - CacheFlow Content Manager (optional) intelligently synchronizes and manages
content across a distributed network of Server Accelerators, essential for sites that manage large
volumes of frequently changing content.
Content distribution - Server Accelerators can be deployed as integral components of public and
dedicated content distribution networks. In August 2000, the Euro 2000 soccer web site deployed Server
Accelerators as part of a dedicated content distribution network to guarantee the delivery of dynamic
content and manage peak crowds. This scalable solution produced fast and up-to-the-second information
to millions of fans, served over 1.4 billion hits and set a new Guinness World Record for the most visitors
to an event-based web site.
Dynamic content acceleration - CacheFlow Server Accelerators accelerate highly dynamic pages based
on a set of customizable rules. For example, the appliances can cache and deliver dynamic stock quotes
for short periods of time and offload thousands of requests from the web server.
Protection against Denial of Service attacks - Server Accelerators protect sites from common denial of
service (DoS) attacks by recognizing and shutting down malicious connections.

In addition to this core functionality, CacheFlow Server Accelerators integrate with leading solutions from
CacheFlow ACE (Adaptive Content Exchange) partners to optimize content publishing, load balancing and site
reporting. This integration allows sites to build world-class content intelligent networks.

Scalable Server Accelerator Family

The CacheFlow Server Accelerator family includes entry-level 1U 710, 725 and 735 models; a mid range 3725
model; and a high end 5725 model. All models run the CacheOSTM Server Edition, an operating system
optimized for web server acceleration. The software is tuned for the workload of a high-traffic Web site, where a
finite amount of content can be accessed by millions of users.

Availability

The 710, 725, 745, 3725 and 5725 Server Accelerators are available now. Prices range from $9,995 for the
entry-level 700 series to $84,995 for the 5725.
