Dear JDN OT OT NTAP's Success mainly comes down to the fact that it has better technology than the others. As a matter of fact I've heard it referred to as "disruptive". I am not a storage expert so we'll have to let those more knowledgeable than I on the NTAP thread defend it but I believe is not the hardware rather it's their OS and the functionality it provides that is superior to the others. Setup or installation supposedly takes hours as opposed to days or weeks for EMC's solutions and Administration cost are much lower. In addition, the initial cost per gig of storage is 400 - 600% lower than EMC's. They just announced a new filer model 840 which scales to 12 Tb (EMC's turf). It will be hard for EMC to defend their market without cutting into their margins. A number of their board members and management team are from Cisco - they know what it takes! The Network storage industry is seeing explosive growth. Gilder Likes it - Made some positive comments on Friday. EPS growth rate 500% siliconinvestor.com Been lots of discussion on G&K, Ntap, and Fool threads. The PE doesn't bother me since at the rate they're growing they'll grow into it soon.
