Well... John Bardeen is sort of my academic grandfather, so I know well about this stuff :) This great man had 2 nobel prizes -one (transistor,1947 - 1956 Nobel prize) has proven to make a significant change in the society, the other (superconductivity,1957 - 1972 Nobel prize) will most likely do it in the future. As far as I know, nobody else won 2 Nobel prizes in the same field.
