<<I can see a reason why you would need a gun. But what is wrong in registering a gun *in such a situation*?>>

Guns are already registered when you buy them and I'm a registered card carrying gun owner.

If I didn't have a gun and wanted to buy one, first I'd have to fill out an application for a gun owner's card and send it to the state. If my back ground check was ok the state would send me a card. Then upon purchasing a gun I'd have to fill out another form that is sent to the state and wait 5 days before taking my gun home. At the time of picking my gun up another form would be filled out and put in a permanent registration book that is open to all local, state and federal police. It is also checked often by the BATF. Now how much more do you want that gun registered? Plus if I sell the gun, I have to keep a record of the serial number, and the name, address and card number of the person I sold it to.
