"the local cable co. can get 3 people connected to the telco's one!"

I would guess the Telco's are just happy they have 5 customers to the Cable co.'s 1. Of course that picture is getting pretty screwed up now that we have Ma Cable... LOL

Tha same arguments I put forth 3 and 4 years ago in debates right here on DSL vs Cable are true today. Cables shared bandwidth causing Slowdowns and Security are points to consider when ordering Broadband Service. If you don't have a Firewall or S/W to make your Cable modem Stealth or your IP address different each time you logon, you'll find someone using your IP address and your speed ends up on the lower side of 56K. Though you'll never find your Cable Modem provider telling you such, though you will find out the hard way.

If your bound and determined to have a DSL connection ("I Want My DMT") and are in SBC's area don't buy that new PC as SBC is ready to offer DSL-ready PCs along with its service for $59.95 a month. This to relieve the Headache and time it takes to install the DSL connection.

If the only Broadband you can get is a Cable Connection, then I would say go4it! Because 56K just don't cut it. and switch when DSL comes around.

Many People say they don't like to keep switching ISP's because of having to change their E-Mail Addr. , but there is a way to solve that problem..... Just buy a Domain addr. an Example: Mooney.com With a Domain Addr account Profile you can set where you want your mail to go. Fwd mail to Mooney@TWC.net then later to Monney@SBC.net. And you have an E-Mail Addr. for Life.

The Last Mile is a Rocky Road for both customer and the Bandwidth provider....
