ISTANBUL -(Dow Jones)- Fixed-line monopoly Turk Telekom Tuesday signed contracts with telephone equipment suppliers Alcatel Teletas Telekomunikasyon Endustri TAS (C.ALC) and Netas, Northern Elektrik Telekomunikasyon AS, (C.NEL) to buy transmission networks.

In a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange, Alcatel, a unit of French-based Alacatel SA (ALA), said it will supply DWDM and SDH transmission networks to Turk Telekom for $121.3 million.

Netas, a unit of Nortel Networks Corp. (NT), said it will provide the Canadian company's SDH networks to Turk Telekom under a two-year $68 million contract. Through this project, the SDH products will be locally developed, with Turkey becoming the fourth national production center after Canada, the U.K. and Ireland.

At around 1000 GMT, Netas was flat at 58,000 lira ($1-TRL670,700), while Alcatel was at TRL85,000, up TRL2,000 or 2.4%.
