this was a HECKUVA third qtr for MPSI and it was based in part on NEW PRODUCTS, which bodes well for forthcoming qtrs in my opinion. if and when the DATAMETRIX division reaches profitability the company should really be able to pile up some numbers.
when this release came out about 6 weeks ago the stock quickly ran up to 3.00. but as is the case in most instances investors tend to forget after a day or two and move on. as interest wanes so does the price and the stock is now trading around 1 3/8 by 1 3/4. spread is wide because there are only 2.8m shares out. that CAN work to your advantage.
so take a look and do your due diligence. a repeat qtr for the 4th would really open some eyes.
TULSA, Okla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- MPSI Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: MPSI - news) reported a quarterly profit of $560,000 or $.19 per share on revenues of $5.4 million based primarily on the strength of orders in connection with its new Retail Explorer(TM) (``REX'') software and data products in North America. These results recoup losses suffered in the two previous quarters of this fiscal year, bringing the year-to-date net income to $10,000 or $.00 per share on revenues of $13.9 million. These positive results compare to the losses experienced in the same quarter and nine months of last fiscal year which were $387,000 or $.14 per share on revenues of $3.9 million and $27,000 or $.01 per share on revenues of $13.9 million, respectively. The results for both periods are negatively impacted by start-up operations in the Company's DataMetrix business unit.
According to Ronald G. Harper, MPSI's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the recent growth in North American revenues ($6.0 million for the nine months versus $4.8 million for the same period last year) is a testament to the Company's belief that its new software and associated data products are both more price competitive and technically superior to competition in North America. ``We are working very hard to roll this new technology out for all of our operating regions and to begin making it available to our Internet users between now and the end of calendar year 2000,'' said Harper. Development on the regionally generic software has been completed and released to client service teams who successfully installed the first Latin American version in July 2000 and are now undertaking the regional analyses necessary to calibrate the model for users in Europe/Africa, Southeast Asia and Japan.
Harper is also pleased with the growth in revenues from a relatively new suite of pricing products. ``As MPSI diversifies its product suite, we are proud of the positive growth in revenues associated with our pricing software and data products. This suite of products is being enthusiastically accepted by convenience retailing clients in a number of countries where depressed capital spending obviates the need for MPSI's traditional capital planning tools (such as REX). In these countries, as clients attempt to maximize profitability from existing retail networks, pricing is a key element and our tools enhance our clients' abilities to perform well in a depressed environment,'' says Harper. MPSI intends to commit additional resources to this business unit in order to diversify the industry and customer base over the next 12 to 18 months.
``Although we have not yet achieved the level of revenues necessary for profitable operations in the DataMetrix business unit, we are still firmly committed to the retail data business,'' said Harper. ``We have recently gone live on the Internet with a new SiteMetrixPlus capability which allows customers to obtain a wealth of market or location information (street layout, consumer demographics, traffic flow, competitor locations, etc.) virtually anywhere within the United States. We will intensively publicize this availability, which is the first step toward our ultimate Internet goal of offering a full range of data and data analysis software products on the Internet.''
