SPECTACULAR!!! Largest SUNW acquisition --$ 2 Billion
David, Thanks so much for the link. I urge everyone to listen. Here it is again: sun.com
They compare it to their Cray acquisition. Cray being on one end of the spectrum -- superservers >$1,000,000. Cobalt being non technical devices <$1000.
I just finished listening and all I can say is that I'm dumbstruck. Its a PERFECT fit, and is a DELL, CPQ killer, IMO. SUNW is going to the lowest end of the server market, with good margins, and accelerated deployment -- through Cobalt. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************* From Cobalt: What is a Server Appliance? ... With a server appliance, you plug it in and enjoy the benefits immediately. Applications such as Web site hosting, e-mail and file storage are suddenly at your fingertips. No need to understand how to use complex operating systems, no need to load applications, no need to integrate it with the rest of your network. Just plug it in, and in about 15 minutes you have established your own Web presence. Add more users with the click of a button. It's as simple as connecting the dots.
A server appliance is more than just a computer with pre-installed software. It's a brand new type of product, borne from a different point of view: Yours. Your needs. Your business objectives. Your degree of technical understanding. It's designed with an explicit focus on what you are trying to accomplish, and shields you from the complexities of how the server achieves it. ... ************************************************************************************************************************************************************ * SUNW has bought a disruptive technology with 4000 customers from Europe, Asia to the Americas.
* Its has point and click simplicity, no technical knowledge required and is designed for the mass market.
* Its a natural fit for SUNW's concept of a Service Driven Network -- which now extends from the low end of < $1000 to the high end of >$1,000,000.
* SUNW's R&D will extend natually to Cobalt's R&D.
From my point of view SUNW has created a world wide architecture for the internet from the most basic to the most complex and will be a powerhouse of enormous strength. The Gorilla of Gorillas.
All the best, Michael |
