Consilium had another losing quarter in Q2 '97. The semiconductor business unit made $4.62M profit, yet there was still a loss for $1.12M for the company. The difference is $5.74M. This translates to: the other parts of the company had a loss of $5.74M.

In the announcement, Consilium didn't give specifics for the action plans regarding further cost reduction measures. The company, however, recognizes that the return to profitability is of high priority.

The company should think of return of investment (ROI) before investing in product development. There has been too much money wasted in developing things that don't make a profit.
