Michael - there is nothing that COBT has which Sun could not have duplicated, on their own products, using Solaris, in maybe 90 days - certainly in 6 months. The COBT line is completely foreign to the SPARC Solaris base - different administration model, different (and years behind the curve) processors, incompatible preipherals.

An appliance line built on Sun's own 1U server products would have been a no-brainer, with across the board compatibility. I think Sun has missed a huge opportunity to create a new showcase for thought leadership in the SPARC Solaris line, and instead has thrown a bone to the opposition.

And as far as COBT "doing so well" - where? Old processors, weak sales, losing money and losing market share to the volume players. What exactly did they do well?
