REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM), the leader in broadband, announced
today that George Bell, Chairman and CEO, intends to resign as CEO once a suitable replacement is found. Bell will

The company said the search committee will work closely with Jeff Christian, Chairman and CEO of Christian and Timbers,
to conduct the search process. Christian and Timbers is a premier retained executive search firm in the high-technology
industry.

"The segregation of the Chairman and CEO roles is a natural evolution of the executive management team as a company
grows. I look forward to assisting the company in its growth as full-time Chairman," Bell said. "I remain deeply committed to
continuing as CEO until such time as the Board can find a qualified new CEO. As broadband demand grows, and as we
continue to execute, I believe the company's best market opportunities still lie ahead."

Bell was appointed Excite's first CEO in January 1996. Bell was appointed the Company's president following the merger of
Excite and @Home Network in 1999. Bell was named chief executive officer and chairman of the board in 2000.

C. Michael Armstrong, chairman and CEO of AT&T today said, "George has brought in a strong new management team
this year, and the board looks forward to his continued leadership during this transition. The new CEO will work closely with
George, the management team and the rest of the Board to take Excite@Home to the next level of growth."

William Randolph Hearst III, Partner, Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and board search committee member, said,
"George has done a wonderful job managing a business which has over the years grown to become both large and
complex. We're grateful for his accomplishments, glad he will manage the transition, and understanding of his decision.
Excite@Home will continue to be well served by George and the whole team he has lead."

The search committee of the board is comprised of directors William Randolph Hearst III, John Petrillo, AT&T executive vice
president of strategy and business development, and Dan Somers, president and CEO of AT&T Broadband.
