Sam, 40% penetration is insane, I think the cable companies would be happy with a 10% rate, which some places they are getting. Remember $40/month for cable internet access is $12/month more than I give TWX for all my channels combined. They probably can doulbe revenue on people who subscribe to internet access. Also remember that each channel has approx 2-15 mbps, and there are over 200 channels capable over HFC. HFC is a bridge to an all optical netowkr someday. Copper is a bridge to nothing expect higher speed chips,it is at best a midband solution to a broadband problem. Satellites also share bandwidth, and don't have the overall capacity or cost structure of HFC.
