It's Lonely Out There for Quiet Periods

Talk about a quiet quiet period.

There is but one company with a quiet period
expiring over the next week -- and that's
ServiceWare Technologies (SVCW:Nasdaq -
news) on Tuesday (For a primer on Quiet Periods,
see my May 4 column).

The firm, which produces software for Internet
e-service businesses, has had an uninspiring 25
days since its initial public offering. To begin with,
the Pennsylvania-based company lowered its initial
price to $7 from a hoped-for $10.50 to $12.50 a share
-- nearly cutting its offering price in half -- without
creating a landslide of enthusiasm among investors.

Of course, in this fickle market, it should also be noted that ServiceWare didn't
tank either. It would be more fair to say that it hasn't done much of anything at
all: staying in a range between $7.43 and $9.

The most interesting thing about the company is that it has a positive track
record in the private sector -- the Yamaha Corporation of America and
FleetBoston Financial have used its services extensively. The company was
also listed for two years running among Inc. magazine's fastest-growing private
companies in America.
