My answer is that this is a bearish set up. There is a head and shoulders trendline violation, supported by a gapping doji pattern. The gapping doji is a continuation pattern and suggests further downside until a close above the window can be achieved. My guess for the strong volume were a plethora of GTC orders at the pivot point ($62 1/4) of the cup and handle pattern which formed from mid june through mid august.
