chic, I agree that AMD looks like an attractive buyout target, compared to many other companies with inflated stock prices but considerably less going for them that are being snapped up. If AMD had to be bought out, I'd much rather see it bought by IBM than Sun, IBM has good process technology and a big research operation in support of it.

The trouble with a hypothetical AMD buyout is that the most logical buyers are computer makers, and if any one computer maker bought AMD, it would very much hurt sales prospects with all the other box makers. The PC market is pretty fragmented, I don't think Dell has much more than 20%.
