Niceguy.. curious you should ask that about how long INTC PR would work.. I saw this at Amdzone.com with a link to Motley Fool..(EDIT: apparently the url link doesnt work at the moment) I believe it might partially answer your question. Here's part of the article that AMDzone has quoted.

"AMD has a lot of baggage to overcome, and the only thing that will do it is consistent, sequential improvements in sales and profits.
The broad investing public / analysts / money managers are in the denial phase still, much as I was early this year. But it is changing.
Witness the increasing frequency of articles in lay publications and news pieces about the AMD / INTC situation. At some point, the herd will catch on and when it does, AMD's market capitalisation is going to move upwards quickly. The speed at which this happens will surprise you...the problem is we can't tell exactly when this will happen. As AMD's market cap rises, more and more money managers and analysts will give AMD the time of day. At 9 bn mkt cap now, AMD is a pipsqeak and doesn't earn anyone much commissions - there is also credibility risk given the
past record of AMD. Mustang announcement, DDR vs Rdram
benchmarks, etc, etc are NOT going to move the share price.

Consistent earnings growth will."
