U.S. Robotics, Nortel in joint development deal

SKOKIE, Ill., May 20 (Reuter) - U.S. Robotics Corp
and Northern Telecom Ltd said Tuesday they entered
into an agreement to jointly develop digital wireless computer
access products.
The two said the agreement was based on the growing need
among professionals to access electronic mail, the Internet and
other computer applications via wireless phone.
Plans call for development of equipment and software to
connect wireless calls to networks such as the Internet or
company Intranets.
The companies said the products will work with both code
division multiple access (CDMA) and time division multiple
access (TDMA) wireless phone technologies.
U.S. Robotics provides products and systems that provide
access to information. Nortel works with customers worldwide to
design, build, and integrate digital networks.
