U.S. Robotics and Open Port Announce Relationship for
Wireless Fax Services Including Internet Fax

SKOKIE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 20, 1997--U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ:USRX - news)
today announced a relationship with Open Port Technology, Inc. for wireless fax services and
Internet-based fax. The joint marketing and development relationship will combine the strength of
U.S. Robotics Total Control Wireless Access System with Open Port's Harmony fax messaging
software, an enterprise-class fax solution, providing Internet and Intranet fax solutions for wireless
service providers.

This joint solution allows wireless service providers to offer their subscribers reliable and
cost-effective wireless fax over Intranets and the Internet, allowing ``anytime, anywhere'' faxing of
information over the cellular infrastructure. Wireless service providers will now be able to expand
their business model to include fax, providing consumers and businesses new capabilities by tapping
into the Internet.

By offering wireless fax services, wireless service providers can capture a piece of the $90 billion
telco fax market, through value-added fax services, better leveraging their network infrastructure
investments, and differentiating from their competition and increasing customer satisfaction.
Additionally, with fax over Intranets and the Internet, wireless service providers can customize fax
services for enterprise customers.

``Tapping wireless networks into the Internet immediately broadens the access and the applications
available to wireless subscribers,'' said Alex Gordy, product line manager, U.S. Robotics Network
Systems Division. ``We're very pleased to initiate this new relationship with Open Port to expand
customer solutions for the wireless services market. Our Wireless Access System's open
architecture allows for the rapid creation and deployment of new services based on third-party
software like Open Port's Harmony, and we expect to discover additional new applications as we
work together going forward.''

``OpenPort is excited to be an integral part of U.S. Robotics' wireless fax solution for wireless
services providers,'' said Doug Cogswell, president and COO, OpenPort. ``OpenPort is highly
focused on helping network service providers broaden the value-added services they can offer their
customers. The integration of Open Port's robust Intranet and Internet fax solution with U.S.
Robotics' Wireless Access System is strong evidence of our commitment.''

Initially targeting the analog cellular networks, these solutions will easily migrate into the digital
cellular and PCS systems.
