Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC $14.69)
Buy
Alexandar Sasa Zorovic and Alex Baluta, Internet and eCommerce Applications
“Digimarc announced on Monday a $60 million investment into the company by Macrovision and Philips, at $20 per share,” said Zarovic and
Baluta. “This investment brings Macrovision’s stake in the company to 12.5 percent and Philips’ to 12 percent. We find this announcement
to be a very positive one as it extends Digimarc’s security as well as analog-to-digital ‘bridging’ platform to video. It is, in our view, the first
step towards ‘VideoBridge’ applications. A further upside may come from the Millennium Group’s proposed security solution for video
protection being adopted by the Motion Picture Association of America, in a ‘platform’ fashion analogous to that of the banknotes and the
G-10 central banks. We are not changing our model at this time, as the three companies provided very limited information regarding the
deal. We will update our model as soon as more detailed information becomes available—which may not be until the company reports its
third quarter on October 18, 2000. Digimarc and Philips have announced the formation of a new, independent company to focus exclusively
on video opportunities. The companies will transfer some of their intellectual property into the company. The company will be set up within
6-12 months.”
