Ooops, They Did it Again.
While this move may be the best thing for ATHM in the long run and may well be an indication of ATT asserting more control, I worry (as is my penchant) that this is a prelude to a preannouncement of missed numbers. Bell set us all up for a no win situation. His 3 million year end sub target was something that ATHM had to stretch for from the beginning, leaving very little chance for an upside surprise. Given the various problems in bb rollout, I wouldnt be a bit surprised if we dont hit those numbers. Now that we are closing in on the end of the year, I bet they all realized there was no chance of making their self-imposed goals.
On the other hand, I cant help but notice a slow change in sentiment regarding ATHM over the last month or so. I have seen several positive articles and a few financial morons are actually lauding the opportunity the stock presents. Perhaps the Bell news has been circulating for a little while, being seen as an indication of a clear direction for ATHM- focusing entirely on the buildout of the bb system and dropping any emphasis on content.
Maybe both things are true.
