AMD spin-off Legerity launches broadband chip sets Semiconductor Business News (09/20/00, 08:34:05 AM EDT) AUSTIN, Tex. -- Legerity Inc. here announced its first products under its new corporate identity--a line of line-card chip sets for broadband applications.
Legerity, the former Communications Products Division of Advanced Micro Devices Inc., rolled out two products. The first product, the Am79D2250/Am79R240, is a chip set designed for use in residential gateways, integrated access devices (IADs), voice-over-DSL (VoDSL) systems, cable-telephony equipment, wireless-local-loop units, and other products.
The second product, the Am79D2251/Am79R241, is a chip set designed to meet the stringent requirements of traditional communications infrastructure equipment.
"Legerity's new Intelligent Access solutions are focused on addressing the infrastructure needs of the rapidly growing broadband communications market," said Daryl White, president and chief financial officer of Legerity.
"Designed specifically for VoDSL, VoIP, IADs, and other remote applications, these chipsets offer innovative features, such as integrated line test and diagnostic capabilities, that enable reduced cost of ownership for communication service providers," he said.
Legerity's chip sets implement a two-channel universal telephone line interface with integrated ringing support, diagnostic capabilities, and modem tone detection. This integration reduces cost per line by integrating many functions that would otherwise require external hardware, such as test and ring relays.
The new chip sets provide a complete software-configurable solution for all transmission parameters. They also support off-hook, ring-trip, and ground-key detection functions.
The Am79D2250 and Am79D2251 are sampling, with volume production planned for the fourth quarter of 2000. The Am79R240 and Am79R241 devices are now available. Per line pricing for the devices starts at $5.45 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
