OT: Alert! Lurker nervously making her first post here. (Sure hope to never get one of those "prosperous investing" thingies from you know who.</> He goes away on vacation so I figure I can get away with that comment for a while.<g>) Oh, and yes, I have rtrfm and all the posts.

A little background: I stumbled onto this thread last summer. It didn't take long to realize that you were on to something. I was already learning about technology and had invested in CSCO and Uniphase. [Of course, I'd also invested in GBLX, but thats another story. :( .]

I listened, learned and tried to filter tidbits of investing wisdom from all the posts. (Of course, I also learned more than I ever wanted to about codpockery and what was that thing called...bumper dumper or something like that?
<g>.) Guess what I was doing is what Uncle Frank so astutely said about "gleaming bits of wisdom from every intelligent poster to increase his wealth".

I listened, learned, laughed, and felt sad when the occasional conflicts came up. But mostly I had fun and worked very hard. (It was a bit like learning a foreign language by total immersion.) Little by little, as the pieces of the investing puzzle fell into place and I became more confident, I invested and built up a nice portfolio. Amazed myself and my husband, who has been incredibly supportive. (But not to worry. Didn't mistake brains for a bull market. <g>) '99 was an easy year to make money. 2000, well, that's another story at least so far. <g> (Not to digress, but I've learned a lot from the bumpy ride this year...I hope it will make me a better investor.)

And,... finally (snzzzz), the purpose of my post: Thanks to everyone for contributing to such a wonderful thread. My hat's off to Uncle Frank for starting it and encouraging a cordial tone. The thread has acted as a magnet and attracted an incredible amount of talent. I'd mention you all by name, but I don't want to get in trouble with Tekboy for thread bloat.<g> But you know who you are, and I say a heartfelt thank you. You might be amazed to know how many lives you have touched in cyberspace.

Before I go. About my moniker. It's all my husband's fault. I'd been lurking on SI for half a year. He decided to make an honest woman of me by paying for a lifetime membership. A little too much wine, being shy about using my name on the internet, that sort of thing. That's how the name came about. It is of course said tongue-in-cheek.

Best wishes to all ggers,

gh

P.S. I am truly amazed at how the internet connects people and transforms lives. What an exciting time to be alive. Who would ever have thought a retired science teacher would be learning about technology and wheeling and dealing in the stock market! All because of the internet and wonderful people like you!
