I was concerned about the "crisis" this summer when neither the Democrats nor the Republicans made high gasoline prices an issue. It seemed a ready-made campaign issue for the Republicans and the Democrats (supposedly in control of the White House - but what the hell does Bill Richardson do as energy czar and how were all our top secret files stolen under his watchful eye?) who would be able to use their "influence" with the Saudi's and Kuwait whom we fought for ten years ago! But neither party even mentioned it. Are the American people indifferent about the issue? Do the polls reflect this indifference? Will we have to see 2 dollar a gallon prices for our cars and heating oil and natural gas prices going through the roof because there is no ceiling to go through any more? What did we get from the Saudis and the Kuwaits for all our efforts against Sadam? Nothing?? Do they care about a world wide recession? That is what's supposed to make them behave rationally and cut the prices; but when is rationality going to set in? And when are we going to get some leadership from Washington? Are we headed for another war with Iraq? Is this just preparing us for the October surprise?
