VAIO PCV-LX700 and LX800 Are Two Powerful Reasons Why Desktop Computing Needn't be Boring

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 20, 2000-- Expanding the lifestyle PC category, Sony Electronics today announced two new powerful, yet design-conscious, additions to its VAIO Slimtop PC lineup, starting at an estimated selling price under $2,000(a).

Building on the distinctive Sony style, flexible functionality and convenient connectivity of previous VAIO Slimtop models, the Fall 2000 Sony VAIO Slimtop PCV-LX700 and PCV-LX800 feature a new design that is both sleek and functional. In addition to processor and memory upgrades, these systems come bundled a with new 15-inch TFT LCD (with up to 1280 x 960 resolution) monitor that adjusts to a near horizontal position, offering unique viewing angles for such environments as the home office, living room or executive suite.

``Sony VAIO Slimtop PCs have always set the benchmark in stylish and space-saving PCs, and the new lineup is no exception,'' said Rich Black, Sony Electronics' marketing director for desktop PCs. ``The new lineup is engineered to add style--not space--to the desktop environment. With their enhanced performance and new design, these desktop PCs are stylish enough to display prominently in an office or home.''

The new VAIO Slimtop models are preloaded with Microsoft®Windows® Millenium® Edition, as well as Sony developed MovieShaker(TM) digital video editing software, DVgate(TM) Motion and PictureGear(TM) software. They also feature a CD-RW drive and a network interface card for access to high-speed Internet connection. The PCV-LX700 and PCV-LX800 models feature processor technology from Intel® such as the Pentium® III 733MHz(b) and 800EBMHz(b) processors, and upgradeable memory up to 512MB SDRAM.

Additional features include a VAIO Smart(TM) Convertible Keyboard with four programmable power keys, including a newly added numeric keypad, an adjustable LCD Display for optimal viewing angles, and an AutoAlert(TM) Email Notification System via a LED featured on the flat panel display. This customizable software allows you to program the VAIO Slimtop PC to automatically download your email on a pre-set schedule via Microsoft Outlook® Express using your ISP. A red LED on the display instantly lets you know whether new mail is downloaded.

Both the PCV-LX700 and PCV-LX800 feature a Memory Stick(TM)media slot, two i.LINK®ports, five USB ports and a Type II PC card slot.

Digital Video Editing Software

The Fall 2000 VAIO Slimtop lineup features Sony's complete suite of digital video software, including DVgate Motion and DVgate Still. These features allow the user to capture full motion digital video and still photography for dynamic multimedia presentations or even video e-mail. Sony's PictureGear version 5.0 software is included for enhanced management of digital content - both sound and video files. Users can visually organize and manage personal digital content collections, including still images, digital video clips, MP3 files and more.

MovieShaker

Pre-loaded on both VAIO Slimtop PCs, the MovieShaker digital video editing application simplifies the creation of digital home movies, giving the user every director's dream: total control. Even the complete novice to DV editing can now easily re-arrange scenes, insert customized text and audio, and select appropriate transitions. The finished movies can then be shared in various formats ranging from a compressed e-mail attachment to a high-quality DV format, and copied onto a CD-RW disc.

``This software illustrates how the digital revolution is coming home with high quality video editing, '' Black said. ``Any family can now have access to the breadth and quality of entertainment that was previously unheard of for the home.''
