Gore puts donor Wenner in media pool on flight
By Bill Sammon
THE WASHINGTON TIMES

LOS ANGELES — Al Gore has taken the unusual step of inviting Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner, who last week produced a concert that raised $6.5 million for the vice president, into the small pool of reporters that flies aboard Air Force Two.

The Gore campaign yesterday listed Mr. Wenner, who has given $2,000 to the vice president and $13,500 to other Democrats in the current election cycle, as one of the 16 "pool" journalists who will accompany the vice president on his flight from California to Washington this afternoon.

The pool is normally reserved for ostensibly impartial journalists. By contrast, Mr. Wenner last week joined Harvey Weinstein of Miramax and John Sykes of VH1 to produce a star-studded concert for Mr. Gore at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

Gore spokeswoman Julia Payne said Mr. Wenner was invited on the plane "as a journalist" who will interview the vice president.

She said the list put out by the Gore campaign must have been a mistake.

"He's not in the pool, per se," she said.

Miss Payne joked that the arrangement allowed Mr. Wenner to "vicariously" play the role of working journalist.

"Editor by day," she quipped, "fund-raiser by night."
