PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2000-- Hewlett-Packard
Company (NYSE:HWP - news) today announced a new alliance with 3Com,
unveiling phase three of its wireless strategy and enabling it to offer customers
simple Bluetooth wireless computing. The agreement will allow HP OmniBook and
HP Pavilion notebook PC users to connect to a wide range of computing and
telecommunications devices without the need to buy, carry or connect cables.

HP also unveiled its next-generation all-in-one notebook PC platform and HP
Instant Support for notebook PCs, products that provide users with easy and
reliable ways to stay connected to their customers, partners and critical data
anytime, anywhere.

HP's Wireless Strategy

HP continues its leadership in delivering reliable and secure wireless solutions by
creating key alliances providing wireless access in the areas of Personal Area
Networks, Local Area Networks and Wide Area Networks.

HP is partnering with 3COM to equip its HP OmniBook notebook PCs and HP
Pavilion notebook PCs with Bluetooth -- wireless communications enabling
technology for peripherals and telecommunications devices. Bluetooth cards are
expected to be available in the fourth calendar quarter of this year. The Bluetooth
PC cards are easy to set up using a connection wizard that enables users to switch
between multiple wired and wireless profiles.

HP holds Associate status in the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, which is a
driving development of the technology(1), and is actively working to ensure
compatibility between multiple Bluetooth-enabled devices and between Bluetooth
and 802.11b wireless devices. HP is a founding member of the Mobile Data
Initiative (MDI) 3G, whose mission it is to make wireless Internet/Intranet access
with mobile devices simple and as common as data over fixed wires.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

HP OmniBook XE3 and Pavilion N5000 PCs are available immediately in a

$1,199(2) to powerful configurations up to $2,599(2).

HP and 3Com Bluetooth PC cards are expected to be available Nov. 1 for an
estimated U.S. street price of $149(2).
