Frank, separate Gore from Clinton in your mind. These two guys are very different. Just as one can't lump all republicans into one amorphous glump, although it feels good to do that, the same goes with democrats.

I don't want to defend Gore by referring to Clinton. Clinton's shortcomings are more perceived than real. Read the White Water Report that came out today. No evidence of overt knowledge or corruption by Clinton. Same conclusion for the travel office "scandal" that wasn't a scandal.

Gore did his job as v.p. very well. He's intelligent and has a proactive agenda w/regard to the environment, military's role in these times, campaign finance reform, and he's been the #2 guy in and administration that has been in office during the most productive, economic era in 40 years.

If you've prospered during the last eight years, and it's been difficult not to have prospered, the policies and economic leadership of the White House (including Rubin) have been a major reason for that prosperity.
