Petz, thanks for posting the press release.

The VIA Apollo Pro266 and the VIA Apollo KT266 are manufactured at TSMC in a .22 micron, 3 metal layer process, and are priced at $40 in OEM quantities. Product photographs and product backgrounders are available upon request.

I think this is a paper launch -- at least for the KT266 (which won't be SMP capable, BTW). Maybe it's now usual to "launch" products well ahead of schedule (ALI did the same thing with its DDR chipset one month ago) but you can't buy KT266 chipsets right now. Please keep in mind that PM266 was also already "launched" (including pricing) but it won't be available before Q4. I don't know of any motherboard manufacturer's roadmap with KT266 boards that early. IIRC Asus has a board in Q1 while their AMD 760 board will appear in Q4.

Motherboards featuring the VIA Apollo Pro266 will be on display at the forthcoming VIA Technology Forum in Taipei on 20-21 September.

As I said: Via Apollo Pro 266 is another story (it's Pentium III only). The press release states that boards with that chipset will be shown tomorrow. No mention of KT266 there. But I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Andreas
