re: "So I guess you could say I am short term Neutral and long term Accumulate with a price target of $300 in 2004."

Careful, you are starting to sound like you work for BoA.

John,

Yikes, you blew my cover. I am a power hungry analyst who wants to have his own thread.

Forgetting that for a moment, Mr. Whittington's upgrade of AMD and Intel after closer examination is not that great a move. He suggests a price target of $40 for AMD which is $80 presplit, and one for Intel of $70 which is not too far from its recent new high.....big deal.

Analysts' moves notwithstanding, I keep forgetting to point out that it doesn't make a whole lot of difference what the analysts say right in any case, at least individually. IBD ranks each industry sector and the companies within that sector according to their stock accumulation/distribution volume each week. For the past year, the semis have always been somewhere in the top 30 and often number 1, meaning that their stock on average was under heavy accumulation. Since SSB's July semi forcast, the semi sector has moved quickly away from the top 30 rankings and is now ranked at 102, meaning that on average the semis stock is under heavy distribution.

So all the upgrades and the downgrades won't mean anything til the accumulation and distribution of semi stock is in better equilibrium. And overall the current downward pressure on semis will remain in place.
