Speaking of Luther and good. I think the simple fact of his standing up to the Catholic Church and refusing to recant was good. I think his splintering of her power was good. The Catholic Church, after all, exceeds all others in its lust for power. There is no greater example of the lust for power than her proclamation as being the official voice for God: His representative in the Universe; The Ultimate Authority. Were Napoleon and Alexander so grandiose as this? No. They were pikers.

Luther stood against this behemoth. He attacked the incredible hypocrisy and self serving nature of indulgences which was similar to the "pass the loot" frauds of modern times. Really, the 95 theses were a response to these indulgences, which, even had they not been fraudulent, would still have had the objection (to Luther) that they removed the individual's focus from the lifelong remorse and self hate that he ought to be feeling during all his waking hours. Luther lived like this. Ought not everyone else?

In a sense Satan did live within Luther. And he tortured Luther till he became increasingly delusional. Illusions can, and do, impact on whole groups of people. Delusions, on the other hand, are an utterly private matter. Either Luther was delusional, or Satan is a real being that either has or can assume corporeality. Take your pick.
