Thu, why do you beleive that satellite-based systems will offer major competition?

These systems have a serious return-path problem (needing to use modems and tie-up a phone line for the return path). They also cannot deliver the same bandwidth, as many, many more subscribers have to share a channel. (In cable systems, a "node" serves at most 1000 homes, but, as a practical matter, probably no more than 200 homes.)

Current satellite-based Internet service is *very* expensive, imposing a prohibitive per-kilibyte surcharge on top of a monthly fee that is similar to that for @Home.
