ADC Opens New Manufacturing Facility in China
New State-of-the-Art Facility to Expand ADC's Presence Across China and the Far East Region
NANJING, China--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 21, 2000-- ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT - news, www.adc.com - news), a leading global provider of fiber optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, today announced the opening of its new manufacturing facility in Nanjing, China. The facility will serve as the technology development and product manufacturing center for ADC's Broadband Connectivity Group and will be used to manufacture a range of fiber optic distribution systems, fiber optic components, and RF components and subsystems for the Chinese and Far East regional markets.
The announcement was made at an opening ceremony attended by Wang Wu Long, Nanjing Government Secretary; Wang Hong Min, Nanjing Mayor; and senior officials from China Telecom and China Netcom, the leading communications providers in China.
``The successful operation of the ADC facility in Nanjing will not only contribute to the building of the Jiangsu and China telecommunication infrastructure, but will also serve to introduce ADC's advanced technologies and management systems to China for the development of other related networks,'' said John Hawkins, general manager of ADC's Nanjing facility. ``Our extensive operation in China will also serve to introduce ADC's access and transport systems and software products into the Chinese market as well.''
The $10 million (US) Nanjing facility is currently 6,000 square meters. The facility incorporates state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and technology to produce its products and is linked to ADC's worldwide communications network, which provides real time product design enhancements and product specifications. The facility provides quick customer order acknowledgement and significantly reduces manufacturing lead times through the use of enterprise resource planning tools, total quality management and just-in-time inventory management.
ADC first commenced operations in China in 1993. Today, ADC products have been installed in more than 30 provincial telecommunications networks and cable TV networks in China. ADC also has sales and operations offices in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai. |
