COLOGNE, Germany -- CreoScitex Ltd.'s Leaf Products group and FillFactory N.V. of Belgium today announced an alliance to jointly develop and market large-area CMOS sensor-based products for high-end digital photography.

During the Photokina trade show in Cologne, the two companies said they intend to leverage FillFactory's CMOS image sensor products and CreoScitex's know-how in digital photography to bundle complete solutions for new systems. The two companies said they have already cooperated in the development of a 6.6-mgeapixel sensor for Leaf Products.

New development efforts for future CMOS imagers and related electronics are now planned for higher resolution systems, low-noise designs and high-speed data processing in digital cameras, said the partners.

Leaf Products has been working on high-end digital cameras for professional studio photography since 1992. CreoScitex was formed by Creo Products Inc. of Vancouver, B.C., after it acquired Scitex Corp. Ltd. for stock valued at $551 million earlier this year. FillFactory, a new supplier of advanced CMOS sensors, was established last December in Mechelen, Belgium, after being spun out of the IMEC independent research laboratory.
