Such industries lobby in favor of higher oil prices (even Bushes have done so ). Higher oil prices means more drilling, means more of their equipment will be sold at much higher profit margins than the oil itself. Even Cheney would not dare to disassociate himself with big oil. That would be a loser argument for him. The only thing they can pick apart is elements of bad decision/indecision by current administration. But then that would not carry much punch in good economic times. Besides global consumers are to be blamed for much higher consumption.
Let me put it this way. There is never enough oil. All of it will be consumed no matter how much you crank up production.
