Ascend's products are compatible with analog
transmission. Semiconductor demand for
telecommunications is the bright spot in semi's.
Ascend's principal chip suppliers are Rockwell,
Motorola, and Intel.
Cascade is not a direct
competitor. Where they overlap, Cisco products
do not compare favorably with Ascend's. Ascend's
products are the on-ramps, integrators, and traffic
cops. They are not switched digital services
(Cascade, Stratacom, Northern Telecom, Lucent),
nor backbone routers (Cisco, others).
Netstar
products will attack Cisco command of backbone
routers. Big iron switched digital
providers NT, LUC can offer products
positioned with a complete Ascend package,
sidestepping Cisco backbone routers. |
