I'm curious to find out whether the Bush camp is ready to admit that naming Dick Big-Time Cheney as VP was a disaster. As some have pointed out, because of Big-Time's position with Halliburton, Bush cannot make political hay out of oil prices, which is a potent issue. Knowing the Cheney problem that Bush has, the Gore camp is hammering home the oil issue today. It's a great strategic move. Trying to be as impartial as possible (though it's hard), I think Cheney comes off as someone with a gigantic stick up his ass. I originally thought that he would appear statesmanlike and experienced. Instead he looks like a stiff guy trying to carry water for someone who is not worthy of his dignity. It looks like Bush is using Cheney to make negative attacks on Clinton-Gore, but it really is dragging down Cheney's image, when he absolutely needs to be building it up right now. In contrast, Lieberman looks to be above the fray and is receiving public embraces from McCain. Frankly, I never thought America was ready for Lieberman as VP, but it turns out to have been a bold, brilliant stroke by Gore. Cheney is an unmitigated disaster. Doughboy.
