Tony,
Just got back from an excellent Italian dinner, how are you?
A couple of points.
To my knowledge, this is the latest in the quarter that Intel has ever warned. They were either scrambling to get high margin goods out the door, or they don't have the same visibility to their numbers (handle on their business). With six business days left in the quarter, blame the CFO.
I haven't had time to go through all the press and posts. Are they blaming demand or execution for the revenue shortfall? If it's demand, we're dead, you can fix execution (although maybe Intel can't these days).
From a brief look at the PR, it appears that Intel revised it guidance for 3rd quarter. Assuming things look OK going forward, it would have been a nice bone to throw to the stockholders to issue guidance for the 4th quater.
What happened to GM?
Bottom line, how can you make all those bullish statements about the 3rd quarter, and then warn with 6 business days left? Do they know what the ---- is going on, or not?
