The quiet period issue came up with Tad Lafountaine when he posted on the AMD thread. As I understand it, quiet periods do not excuse companies from reporting news of a material nature that could move the stock....whether its good or bad news.

So that when Toni says she is in a quiet period and can't comment, yes, she is trying to discourage emails from coming into her office but she is also signaling that she knows nada at this point and that AMD's quarter is fine to the best of her knowledge. However as we have learned with Intel, that can change next week.

So when there is trouble, everyone emails the IR Dept, looking for answers. But if you understand how the rules really work, it is nearly useless to contact them because they often are the last to know.

If a company is in trouble and it knows the problem will move the stock price, most IR Depts finds out the same time we do. Think about it...no one wants to put their IR Dept in a compromised position where they have to spill the info before the company is ready.

So to hassle T. Beckham is crazy..she probably knows about as much as we do.
