The only solution would be not to allow growth funds. By definition they are looking for momentum stocks. Their rival funds will buy the big movers regardless of valuation so they do too.

Our funds look for the best tech and the sector leaders. We won't pay up for trash. But if you want to own the leaders in hot technology niches, they won't be on sale at a PEG of 1 and 3x revenues.

Not saying it's right or wrong - just how it is. The only defense for a small investor is to avoid volatile funds if the volatility exceeds your limits.

A lot of folks in what they thought were "safe" funds are going to get whacked 5% or worse on Friday. Lots of complacency out there. Try and find a big cap fund that is not loaded down with the same 20 tech names.
