I am the one who pointed out that blacks are more in tune with us on social issues (incidentally, that includes things like gay marriage). Otherwise, you are quite wrong. Newt Gingrich, for example, explicitly said in his speech when installed as Speaker that Republicans had been on the wrong side on civil rights in the 60s. No one denounced him for it. Was Wilson hostile to hispanics? I thought he was hostile to illegals, which is rather different. As far as gays go, well, one can't please them all.
It will be no surprise to you that I do not think that the GOP has been particularly unfair to anyone in recent years. I agree that it could continue to evolve, though. I was, in fact, very pleased with the convention, which I did not regard as pandering at all, but as a real effort to articulate the Republican version of inclusiveness. I hope we continue in that direction, emphasizing our common interest as Americans, and not our hyphenated interests as groups to be placated and bought......... |
