Oh please, how patronizing can we get! Speaking as a member of a minority group, I can flatly say that the Republican convention was a complete insult to my intelligence. How asinine was it for the Republican party whose delegate count sported only a few minority members to drag nearly all of them to the podium to show their faces behind the likes of Trent Lott and Tom Delay. A commitment to minorities does not begin with finding a few non-white faces; it begins with policies. And it begins with ending its relationship with hate-mongering groups around the country. When push came to shove, and McCain was dumping on him, Dubya went to Bob Jones University and kowtowed to racists and bigots. That's the true mettle of the man.

As for your comments on the "patchwork" of the Democratic Party, might I point out that you left off women as a voting bloc, which is the majority voting bloc in the United States today. They have also voted the Democratic ticket for the last decade, and pose the biggest threat to a Republican majority. Put together women and minorities, and you have a good two-thirds of the electorate covered, and the fastest growing segments as well, and that's not a shabby "patchwork" at all. In my mind, it will take decades for the Republicans to recapture the mantle as the party of Lincoln.
