Norton Systemworks 2001 Incompatible with Eudora 5

IN THE NEWS - NORTON SYSTEMWORKS 2001 FOR ME
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Man, if you can't stand the software incompatibility heat, stay out of the kitchen. What do I mean by that? Symantec has just released Norton SystemWorks 2001, which offers Windows Me support. I got the final code in the mail this week. I was eager to install the new version, since I liked its predecessor (after a performing a very selective install). For a low down on what's new in SystemWorks 2001, see the press release:

.. and also the Norton SystemWorks 2001 site:

My favorite "feature" of Norton SystemWorks 2001 (besides Windows Me support) is the fact that it no longer includes Norton CrashGuard -- a program whose cure was worse than the ills it purported to treat.
But I digress. Back to the heat and the kitchen and all that. I eagerly installed the gold bits of SysWorks 2001 on my machine only to discover that the one feature of Norton AntiVirus I most depend on -- e-mail antivirus protection -- doesn't work with Eudora Email 5.0, a product that shipped only a few weeks earlier. By doesn't work, I mean that either you turn off e-mail protection, or NAV 2001 renders Eudora 5 unusable. The previous version of Eudora Email, 4.3.2, is unaffected by NAV 2001, but I've already made the switch to Eudora 5.0, and I'm not going back.
I contacted both Symantec and Qualcomm about the problem. Symantec promises a patch, but it can't say when that patch will appear. Meantime, I'm trying to revert back to SystemWorks 2000. These are exactly the kinds of problems you can expect when a new operating system comes out. But this one affects anyone using Eudora 5 and NAV 2001, no matter what version of Windows you're running.
