Democrats do not show case him as Republicans do with Colin Powell or Rice. Jackson ran on his strength and lost in the primaries a decade ago. He does not represent the voice of the entire democratic party. I am sure there will be other minority leaders who will come into prominence in future on their own merit, without any showcasing. Usually a lot of brou ha ha is made about many other countries about women's rights, minority rights etc., it is US that is yet to elect such a person in one of the highest office. Britain, Israel, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and many other countries have had women and minorities elected to high office at one point or other.
